The Blackberry Curve 8350i was introduced by Sprint for the Nextel network in the first quarter of 2009. The Curve 8350i, like the other Curve models is equipped with a full QWERTY keyboard and the rollerball. Many early adopters were unhappy with the phones performance until later updates to the software were released. Even with these updates some users continued to experience problems. Some of the problems may have related to Sprint service versus the phone itself though. Like many other Blackberry Curve phones, the Curve 8350i has been a popular business phone.
The 8350i runs the latest version of the Blackberry OS, which uses the same menu system as the Bold. Many users believe the latest version of the OS is the most intuitive so far. This version of the OS also means that the 8350i is preloaded with AIM, GoogleTalk, Yahoo messenger, and Handmarks Pocket Express aggregator.
Media can be easily Synced with the Blackberry Media Sync App and the built in speaker does a decent job of music playback. The 2.5mm headset jack makes it difficult to find high end headphones but that is a minor annoyance.

The Blackberry Curve 8350i has had mixed reviews. When introduced the CNET editors gave the phone 3.5 stars ( a 7 out of 10). The reviewer liked the push-to-talk service available on the Nextel network as well as many of the Blackberry Curve 8350i features. The pros from the review included the integrated Wi-Fi for browsing the internet, GPS, and Bluetooth. These features of the 8350i teamed with the updated OS, a full HTML Web browser, and more advanced multimedia capabilities were all a plus. The reviewer did not like how slow the phone ran and had issues with sending emails.
The latter of the cons is a big one for Blackberry users. One of the primary reasons customers choose a Blackberry Curve 8350i phone is to send emails. If this service is not up to par, Blackberry users will quickly look for another model or brand of phone.
Users varied widely on their opinion of the phone. Many users gave the phone 5 stars but an almost equal number rated the Curve 8350i as less than stellar. Common problems included long delays in receiving emails or text messages or a slow browser. Many of these issues may relate to the Sprint/Nextel service versus the phone itself. Some users found less of a delay after upgrading the OS or by tweaking some settings but this did not help all users.
There were minimal complaints about the hardware itself. Most 8350i users were happy with the keypad, screen and trackball. Blackberry has since updated new models to use an electronic trackball versus and actual trackball. This may provide less hardware failures and is a nice upgrade.
With the release of the latest operating system, many Blackberry Curve 8350i speed issues should be addressed. This will not improve the issues related to the service provider but should impact those that were phone related. Users should upgrade as soon as possible to the latest operating system.
The Blackberry Curve 8350i is the largest of the 8300 series phones. As a result many of the Blackberry Accessories that work with other 8300 series Curve models will not work with the 8350i. At a height of 111m, it is a full 4mm taller than the rest of the line. In addition it is 2mm wider and 2.5mm thicker. It also weight 21g more than the rest of the Curve 8300 series line of cell phones. It is the only Curve 8300 series phone with built in Push to Talk (PTT).
Other than the size difference, the Blackberry 8350i shares many features with other cell phones in it series. Features include the browser, 2.0mp camera, Blackberry Maps, Media Player, SMS, MMS, GPS and Video recording. Only one other phone in the 8300 series has the Video recording feature as well.
Additional features include Bluetooth, 2.5mm stereo headset compatible, headset jack, built-in speakerphone, 320x240 high resolution color display, mp3 ringtones, polymorphic ringtones and more. One feature missing is the ability to use the Curve 8350i as a tethered modem. The onboard memory is 128 megs with the ability to add additional memory through a microSD card. Blackberry rates the Curve 8350i at up to 7 days/168 hours of standby time and up to 4 hours of talk time. This can be extended even further by using a holster with the built in sleep magnet.
