What are the different types of cell phone holster and pouch clips?

• Spring Loaded Belt Clip - Spring loaded belt clips are a stationary clip attached to the back of the holster or pouch.  These types of clips are generally covered with leather.

• Standard Swivel Belt Clip - Swivel belt clips have two parts.  The spring loaded clip portion attaches to a belt, purse, visor, or other item.  The back of the pouch or holster has a button which slides and locks into the clip.  Releasing the holster or pouch is as easy as pushing the button the clip and lifting the pouch or holster out.  These swivel clips freely spin within the belt clip and are good for cell phone users that constantly catch their phone on things.  Because the phone has to be removed from the holster for use, these types of belt clips are uncommon on holsters and pouches.

• Ratcheting Swivel Belt Clip - The ratcheting swivel clip on holsters and pouches is generally a spring loaded belt clip attached to the back of the holster or pouch that will swivel ratchet into different positions.  As a result, the phone can be carried in a horizontal or vertical position.  Most of these types of holsters have 6 to 8 ratchet spots the phone can be positioned in.

Cell phone pouches and holsters can be a great way to carry and protect your phone.  Unlike cases, pouches and holsters require the phone to be removed from the pouch or holster to be used.  An add on belt clip can also be a great way to carry your phone if you don't like the bulk a case or holster adds.  Pouches have some type of clasp that holds the phone in the pouch versus holsters that have an open top.  If a case is what you are looking for, you can find information on cell phone cases here.

What are the different types of cell phone holster and pouch material?

• Leather - Leather cell phone holsters and pouches provide exceptional protection and an easy way to carry your phone.  These generally come with a spring loaded belt clip that may be stationary or ratchet.  In the case of the ratcheting clip, the phone can be carried in either a horizontal or vertical position. 
• Plastic - Plastic holsters provide quick access to the phone and come with either a stationary or ratcheting spring loaded belt clip.  A good plastic holster makes it easy to snap the phone into place and provides ample room to grasp the phone to remove it.  While these types of holster provide little protection to the phone, they do provide a convenient way to carry the cell phone.  In some cases, a premium rubberized plastic holster may be available which provides added cushion for the phone when being put into and taken out of the holster.
• Neoprene - Neoprene holsters and pouches are one of the best materials for protecting a cell phone.  The shock resistant traits of the neoprene may keep a phone from getting damaged when dropped or hit on something.  Neoprene is also highly water resistant.
• Nylon - Nylon pouches are tough and durable.  This type of pouch is commonly used in environments where a phone is likely to be subject to extreme conditions.  Nylon cell phone pouches provide exceptional protection.
• Hydrofoam - Hydrofoam holsters and pouches use a material that is tough and hard.  Good hydrofoam holsters have a protective inner liner that keeps the phone from getting scratched.  Due to the toughness of the material, these holsters provide great protection to the front and back of the phone.  The two pieces of hydrofoam (front and back) are generally connected using elastic which keeps the phone snugly in place.

Belt Clips - Belt clips have two parts.  One part is a button that attaches to the back of the phone with an adhesive patch.  The second part is the spring loaded clip that can be placed on a belt, visor, purse, etc.  The button then snaps into the spring loaded clip and can be removed by pressing the button the clip and lifting the phone out.  This type of clip can be useful in cases where you want to attach your phone to your belt, purse, etc but a functional case is not available and you don't want to use a pouch or holster.  One common issue is the adhesive on the button not sticking well to the back of the phone.

What to watch out for when purchasing a cell phone holster or pouch?

• Look for high quality pouches and holsters that have an inner lining that will protect your phone from scratches.  Some cheap holsters and pouches currently on the market have no inner lining and the result may be scratches on the shell or screen of the cell phone.   Also look for high quality leather or neoprene and stitching that is clean and does not leave sharp edges.  All holsters and pouches we carry at Discountcell have a internal lining to protect your phone and are made from quality materials.
